Start with common questions:
What do you need to know about?
What is blocking you? /How can you overcome this blockage?
What do you ultimately aspire to do in this situation?
What are your strengths? /What are your weaknesses?
What are the opportunities? / What are the challenges?
What is outside of your control?
What hidden factors do you need to consider?
What will be the outcome if?
Where are you headed in the next three/six/twelve months?
Focus on empowering you or your client:
What is the best thing you can do right now to?
How can you bring about the best possible outcome?
How can you overcome your obstacles?
How can you resolve these issues?
Where do you need to focus your attention?
Where do your greatest opportunities lie? And how can you leverage these opportunities?
Decide on a layout:
Card layouts can be created in any shape you like. There are a couple of things you need to ask yourself before you choose one. Do you want this to be a large spread with many cards? Or a small spread with just a few? Is there a specific number that can have an impact on the spread? How much information do you need? Is there a shape that lends itself to the idea you have? Does it need a shape? Or is it fine to lay them out in a line or square? I have seen spreads in shapes from simple squares to elaborate birthday cake or triple moon layouts. The shape is completely up to you. As an artist I tend to give my spreads a bit of shape, especially if there is a shape that will lend energy to the reading.
There are a few basic principles to designing you own tarot spreads. First you must decide what it is you want to know. The n you can begin to think about what the layout should look like. Finally, you can determine the meanings that you will assign to specific positions.
